19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized the Russian player won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after March of that year.

Success also means the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to perform at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an better serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent rescued four initial chances in a close final set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
